The presidential elections campaing of right wing politician Laura Huhtasaari started during fall 2017. In this series Presidenttiehdokas (The Presidential Candidate) I followed her and her supporters in two public programs in Southern Finland, Forssa and Vantaa. These areas are thought to represent a somewhat backward areas in South Finland, that don't belong to the highest peak of economical or cultural progress.
Shivan kalastajat // Shiva's Fishermen
Intian Keralassa sijaitsevassa kalastajakylässä perinteistä elinkeinoa harjoittaa vielä muutamia kalastajia. Miehet melovat joka aamu ja ilta meren aaltoja uhmaten kalaan ja käsittelevät saalinsa ja verkkonsa rannalla. Teollinen kalastus avomerellä uhkaa paikallisia kalastuselinkeinoja. Tässä pienimuotoisessa kalastustoiminnassa, jossa veneetkin melotaan ihmisvoimin näyttää olevan kyse paljon muustakin kuin elinkeinosta. Se on elämäntapa ja tärkeä osa kylän miesten kulttuuria.
This series Kansankirkko (Church of People) is about the main religion in Finland, which is Lutheran Christianity. The society is getting more secular and also other religions or different forms are appealing to people. During past years the Lutheran Christian Church has tried to renovate itself to stay connected with Finnish people and their lives now a days.
I went to two masses that are different from the usual Lutheran masses. The Medieval Mass was popular with older people. They sang medieval songs. Metal Mass had resemblances to metal music concerts. The songs were made into metal music versions, with electrical guitars and drums in the church. Sometimes it was hard to say wether it was a gothic rock concert or mass. The atmosphere was very concentrated and holy still.
